Career Advisor Top 5: Insights I Wish I Knew in August

  1. The sooner you gain clarity, the sooner you can start concentrating efforts on specific recruiting paths. I suggest thinking about how to craft your career progression journey: how have your past experiences led you to want to pursue this new experience?
  1. First year fall is full of competing priorities: busy course work, recruitment (for many), and figuring out extracurriculars. Be reflective, intentional with your priorities, and comfortable saying “no” when needed
  1. If you’re planning on looking into unstructured recruiting (usually anything not IB or consulting), think about companies that interest you and write them down; start building a tracker to see where you apply and where you have made connections.
  1. Prioritize time management. There is a lot that can be thrown at you in the fall and time moves quickly but take a deep breath and prioritize taking time each week to look at the week ahead and map out what events/hw/and social things will take up your time. Also, remember to have fun and try new things!
  1. This is a time for reflection. Finding the right post-MBA career goal is all about reverse engineering. Once you find the career that suits you, try understanding the process and reach out to people who can help you with it.
