Review important CMS features, including:
CMS
- To log in to CMS: https://som-yale.12twenty.com/dashboard
- Make coaching appointments, find upcoming events, search job postings, and see employer information (contacts, notes on recruiting processes, etc)
Calendar Sync
- To set up calendar sync:
- Once logged into CMS, click on your name in the bottom right-hand corner. A sub-menu will pop up.
- Choose Account Settings
- On the Account Settings page, choose the platform you want to sync with. This will open a pop-up for you to enter account information and authorize the sync with the email/calendar provider.
- Once the platform is synced, make sure “Sync from 12twenty to my person calendar” is marked “Yes”. If this is marked “No”, click the Edit button next to Calendar Sync to change.
Profile & Job Preferences
- Choose the Profile button in towards the top of your left-hand menu and go through all steps to update your profile, especially job preferences.
- Job preferences are an important piece to get noticed by employers. When employers pull resume books (both employers who post events and jobs through CMS and others who do not), they can filter the resume book by each area in job preferences (preferring industry, preferred function, preferred city, and preferred country) to see resumes for students whose preferences match their search.
- For instance, if a tech employer, filters preferred industry “Technology – Software/Internet”, they will see only resumes for students who have marked “Technology-Software/Internet” as a preferred industry.
- Employers only see your resume, not other preferences you have marked.
- In choosing preferences, we recommend that you:
- Be broad – choose all areas where you have interest
- Be honest – don’t include areas that you wouldn’t actually consider
- Update regularly – as your interests / intentions change, you can always go in and update your preferences
Who Went Where for networking with 2Y MBAs / recent graduates
- Go to the Who Went Where folder in the Resource Library: https://som-yale.12twenty.com/resource-library/10147
- Inclusion here and in aggregate data for SOM employment reports and CMS Research Tools is based on marking “Yes” for “I authorize Career Services to publish my name, firm name, and geographic location for my employment on its web site for the sole purpose of assisting others in the Yale SOM community in their networking efforts.” in the General section of your profile:
Coaching Appointments
- Reserve in CMS here: https://som-yale.12twenty.com/appointments
- Only 1 appointment at a time
- Can make reservations up to 12 hours before desired time
- Can filter by virtual or in person if desired
- Otherwise, Open Hours are available for drop-in quick questions starting Monday, 8/28
- Coaches will note location of Open Hours in the #cdo-coaches Slack channel each day
- Quick questions can also be asked on the #cdo-coaches channel, however:
- Please don’t request appointments or material reviews on this channel
- If you have an urgent need, and no appointments or Open Hours are available in CMS before your deadline, email som.cdo@yale.edu
- Coaches are generalists, so you can meet with any coach. We encourage you to meet with different coaches and find the one whose style works best for you
Saved Searches in CMS
- Works in both the Events and All job posting sections
- Filter to your preferences, then click “Turn on email alerts for this search” in the solid blue bar at the bottom of your screen. Follow prompts to name, choose frequency of alerts, and save
- For example, if interested in upcoming Investment Banking events, you can filter by Event Industry = “Financial Services – Investment Banking”
- Then click “Turn on email alerts for this search” in the bottom blue bar
12Twenty Network Events & Job Postings
- 12Twenty is the name of the company that we use as our Career Management System (CMS)
- Any Event or Job Posting with the blue and purple circle next to the title are from the 12Twenty Network. This means an employer posted the Event or Job Posting with all schools who use this platform and did not go through our office to post
- In this case, we have limited ability to edit the Job Posting or Event and may not have direct contact with the employer, so we recommend that you reach out to the employer directly with any questions or issues
- If you can’t find a contact, however, email us at som.cdo@yale.edu, and we’ll do our best to connect you
Important Event Information in CMS
We encourage you to read event information thoroughly to make sure you don’t miss important information, but here are a few key areas to always check:
- Event registration period
- This is the period in which you can register for an event and cancel your registration
- Cancellation after the registration period is closed is not permitted except in the event of an emergency. Please email som.cdo@yale.edu with your late cancellation requests
- If you miss a registration period, please email som.cdo@yale.edu to see if there is an opportunity for late registration (this may depend on event requirements, and the employer’s needs)
- Event Details
- Employers enter this information and sometimes include key details, such as a required double registration or explanations of nuances of the role
- Target Audience
- Entered by the employer, this field shows who the employer is targeting with their event. The majority of events are open for all students to see and attend, but there may be a particular program, level of work experience, graduation year, etc, that the event is targeted to
- Use this information to assess your opportunities
- Work Authorization Requirement
- Relative to the role(s) the employer is hiring for / speaking about in the event
- Options include:
- “All Work Authorizations Accepted” – employer is seeking to connect with students, regardless of visa status
- “Permanent U.S. Work Authorization Required” – employer is seeking to connect with students who already have permanent US work authorization. CPT and OPT are not considered permanent US work authorization
- “Other Work Authorization Required” – see the employer notes or reach out to the employer directly for clarification
- “STEM eligible degree” – employer is seeking to connect with students who are doing a STEM eligible degree
- As with Target Audience, most events are open to all students to see and register, regardless of Work Authorization Requirement, however this lets you know what the employer’s requirements are for the role that they are hiring for
- Primary Event Contact
- This is a contact shared by the employer for students to contact. If you have questions about the event details, are interested but unable to attend the event due to a conflict, find a broken event link, etc, this is someone you can reach out to
