The Non-Profit sector is ripe with a range of employment opportunities that span a multitude of industries and functions. Here is what I am seeing from my partnerships with employers in this sector:
Recruitment timing:
- Many non-profit organizations focus campus hiring efforts in the Spring semester
- Recruiting events and outreach from non-profit organizations is ramping up as winter approaches, keep an eye out for news and events as they connect with us or add jobs on sources like Reconsidered, Workmaze and MBA Exchange
- The majority of internship and full time offers for graduates are made in April through June, as well as just in time opportunities in this same timeframe from companies such as REDF, CCS Fundraising, GiveDirectly, The Rockefeller Foundation, Sesame Workshop, Wellspring Consulting and World Economic Forum to name just a few
Look for opportunities across:
- Art and culture, education, climate change, impact investing, consulting, agriculture, community and economic development
- Startups, public charities, private foundations, and private operating foundations
- Corporate-level roles that focus on social responsibility initiatives
- Advocacy, social justice, racial disparity, climate and environment, agriculture, social justice and public health
How to get noticed as a candidate:
- Many jobs that are increasingly prevalent in the non-profit sector focus on program evaluation and impact measurement, so candidates who possess technical and data analysis skills and can apply them in a mission-driven environment will stand out
- Non-profit employers value leadership skills, critical thinking and a passion for the cause
