What is your CMS profile?
This is a snapshot of you, captured in a database through filterable fields. Do you want to be noticed by employers that interest you? Use your profile to make sure they aren’t filtering you out! The profile reflects your past professional experiences and academic studies, current skills, education and clubs, and future desires and current job search status. You can update your profile any time as you gain experiences, learn skills, and/or refine your desires.
Who sees the information in your profile?
Recruiters never see your profile. Worried about varied interests or not quite sure yet where you want to work? Only you and the CDO staff see your profile in its entirety. Recruiters use filters to select relevant criteria. Results then show students who match that criteria, but not their profiles.
How is the information in your profile used?
Do I really need to do this? If you don’t want to miss out on opportunities, yes. Two common scenarios in which the information in the CMS profile is used are:
1) Employers or CDO staff filter resume books to identify students who may fit requirements for a job description
- The employer selects a desired Resume Book in CMS
- The employer then adds filters to fine-tune results. Employers can choose from among these filters:
Function Experience | Graduation Term | Preferred Post Graduation Industry |
Industry Experience | Program | Preferred Post Graduation Function |
Language(s) Spoken | Silver Scholar? | Preferred Post Graduation Country |
Languages(s) Written | Joint Degree | Preferred Post Graduation City |
Work Authorization – Consolidated | Clubs & Organizations | Resume Keyword Search |
- The results reflect only those students who have submitted their resume into the resume book and whose profile matches the filter/s the recruiter selected
- Employers DO NOT see the profile; they only see the student name, degree, graduation year, email and resume
- Only the resume you submit into the resume book is shared
- CDO staff approach resume book filtering the same way as above, although with additional filtering capabilities, such as years of experience
2) CDO staff emailing students through CMS
CDO staff use filters such as Program, Graduation Year, Work Authorization, Job Seeking Status, Preferred Industry, and Preferred Function to send targeted emails to students.
Why should you care about completing your CMS profile in full?
- Makes it easier for you to be identified as a qualified candidate by employers
- Allows employers searching for specific experiences, skills or desires to find you in the resume book – assuming you have submitted a resume (make sure you have!)
- Ensures CDO is sharing relevant information with you
- Reduces unwanted/ irrelevant outreach from employers and CDO
Pro tips and common pitfalls
- Submit your recent resume into the resume book. When you make edits, you can resubmit to the resume book, ensuring your current resume is findable
- Complete all fields so you’re not inadvertently excluded from a search – if you leave a field blank, you/ your resume are excluded from search results if that field is used
- If you are targeting specific functions or industries and have relevant desirable experience or skills, ensure those keywords are on your resume, such as AI/ML, coding, customer insights, data analysis, financial inclusion, human-centric, product management, user design, etc.
