I understand how stressful this time of year can be, and there is certainly added anxiety this year for many.
What we’re seeing in the market
Overall, the employment market is still robust. That said, it is highly competitive and takes a lot of work to get an offer. Also, that doesn’t mean every employer is hiring – flexibility and openness are key. The good news is, we’re still hearing of many new roles daily and of students (including international students) securing full-time roles and internships daily. That could change at any time, and recent market fluctuations may lead to companies pulling back as they assess their risk – we haven’t seen that yet, and we’re keeping a close eye on it through postings, activity, and daily employer interactions and executive recruiters.
What can you do if you’re still seeking?
To those still looking for your next role (internship or full-time), the most important thing you can do is be consistent in your relationship building and preparation. There are great opportunities, and they move quickly – you need to be ready to stand out. I strongly encourage you to meet with a coach since there is no “one size fits all.” Everyone’s situation and path is unique, and you should strategize individually based on your personal goals, criteria, and circumstances. Also, stay tuned to the Slack channels, especially #cdo-coaches, as updates are posted regularly.
How the Employer Partnership Team is advocating for you
The employer team spends every day reaching out and speaking with employers and alumni across the world, creating new relationships, and finding new opportunities with existing ones. Follow the many interest-specific CDO Slack channels and the Activity Stream in CMS for updates.
For details about CDO employer initiatives, check out the employer part of our site, as it includes our regular employer newsletters, SOMPOst. That only scratches the surface and will give you an idea of the “behind the scenes” outreach and information sharing. That newsletter has thousands of recipients including HR, hiring managers, and alumni, and a very high open and click rate (with few opt outs).
Admitted students
For those of you speaking with incoming students, thank you! Refer them to the CDO welcome webinars (they include student panels and open Q&A). Also, there’s information on pre-mba programming on the CDO site, which gets updated regularly. Anything timely is directly Slacked to admits by the CDO. (And if you are an incoming student reading – welcome again!)
