Incoming Students Ask Me Anything Follow Up (1/2)

General Questions

Congratulations and welcome to SOM! (You’ll hear that a lot!) Thank you to everyone who joined our CDO Ask Me Anything session for admitted MBAs with Abigail Kies and Mike Minutoli on May 6.

Thanks for your great questions. This first blog “Part 1” answers the general questions. “Part 2” share our recommendations and answers to questions about what to do now, when to expect access to CDO resources, how to leverage summer pre-MBA opportunities, and how to use the next few months.

First, we want to share some broader questions… how is the current economy impacting job prospects? How does the CDO facilitate alumni engagement? What can you expect if you’re looking for IB/ Consulting? What about if you’re not looking for IB/ Consulting?

  • Things can change at any moment in any direction, and for now, many companies are hiring – and competition is high. The more you work with the CDO to be as prepared as possible, the better you’ll do
  • Flexibility and openness are key to success – the biggest opportunities for learning, growth, and a thriving career may be with organizations you’ve barely heard of before – the clearer you are on what’s important to you, the more likely you are to find those places you’ll thrive
  • Alumni panels, small interactive sessions, and networking opportunities are integrated throughout the CDO curriculum
  • Many students pursue IB and Consulting, and many students don’t – it’s important for everyone to engage with the CDO early and work with the CDO coaches to design a career path and strategy that’s right for you and your personal goals – there are resources for everyone, and the coaches are great guides for you as you navigate everything available. No matter what your goal is, clarity, preparation, and relationships are keys to your success. Read “Part 2” for what you can/ should do in the next few weeks and months to prepare for SOM and your career.
