A campus ambassador serves an important role in the recruiting process for firms. While different firms use different names, this role is staffed with a full-time consultant for a 2-4 month rotation. Typically the consultant graduated from business school within the past 5 years, and liaises with 2-4 schools. The campus ambassador is a primary resource for students to:
- learn how to navigate the firm’s recruiting process
- connect with practitioners in specific offices/ practice groups
- get questions answered regarding a student’s unique application profile
Given their value in helping to navigate the recruiting process, students should connect with campus ambassadors early on. This is easily done given campus ambassadors offer many opportunities to connect, both in-person and virtually: Look for campus ambassadors to
- Attend firm information sessions
- Host multiple coffee chats
- Host ask-me-anything/ open houses
- Manage email inquiries
- and more! Past campus ambassadors at Yale SOM have hosted small group walks up East Rock or invited students to dog-walk while connecting.
This year, I anticipate four firms will name Yale SOM campus ambassadors: Bain, BCG, LEK, and McKinsey.
Not all firms use the campus ambassador model; some use an alumni network model, and others take different approaches based on hiring needs, size, and resources. In all cases, firms want to connect with Yale SOM students.
