Healthcare & Life Sciences Industry Recruiting Talent Toolkit

Healthcare industry hiring this fall is plentiful with opportunities across sectors including provider services, product development, pharmaceutical, life sciences, and biotech – creating a hiring environment that is simultaneously competitive and broad. Healthcare consulting is seeing notable growth as organizations seek guidance on navigating post-pandemic care models, digital health transformation, and evolving regulatory demands.

Recruiting trends to keep in mind

As you conduct your search, look for roles such as finance, marketing, program and project management, supply chain, tech and digital roles that are in demand. The mindful approach is to match those job descriptions with your skills, experience and competencies that will successfully contribute to the healthcare organization.

Can students pivot into the health industry?

Generally, the healthcare and life sciences industry values proven interest in healthcare. This can be shown by previous experience, academic coursework, club involvement and more. If you are seeking a corporate role and pivoting from another industry, some roles, such as supply chain, finance, and digital/ technical roles, may be more open regardless of your previous healthcare experience.

How do I network in this industry?

Employers who are actively hiring with Yale SOM Career Office support provide networking opportunities with their hiring managers, recruiters or alum if possible. Networking can be virtual, in person or a combination of formats.

What timing can I expect of internship and full-time recruiting?

This fall, employers in healthcare consulting, pharma, and medical devices are posting internships with applications due the end of October-November, first round interviews in November-December and second rounds in January.  Additional employers in pharma, biotech, consulting, and provider services will continue to post some internship roles throughout early spring and full-time roles depending upon their hiring timelines, so keep that perspective in mind when researching your companies of interest. Internships can lead to offers of employment with LDRP programs and full-time roles – make sure you express your interest in these career pathways if you land a final interview!
