The 3 Cs of Your Search: Clarity, Connections, Consistency

Earlier this year, I shared a simple framework that I adapted from my high school’s freshman orientation program – 3C Week – that has proven surprisingly powerful in the job search: Clarity, Connections, Consistency.

As recruiting intensifies and calendars fill up, these three words can serve as a compass to help you stay focused, intentional, and resilient.

Clarity: Know What You’re Aiming For

Clarity doesn’t mean having everything figured out. It means knowing enough to take the next step with purpose.

Ask questions:

  • What industries or roles excite me?
  • What kind of work environment helps me thrive?
  • What values do I want reflected in my career?

Clarity helps you filter opportunities, tailor your pitch, and make decisions that align with your goals, not just the noise around you.

Connections: Build Relationships, Not Just a Network

Business School recruiting is as much about who you know as how you show up. But connections aren’t just transactional, they’re relational.

Focus on:

  • Meaningful coffee chats
  • Engaging with alumni and second-years
  • Following up with gratitude and curiosity

Strong relationships lead to insights, referrals, and mentorship. They also remind you that you’re not alone in this process.

Consistency: Small Steps, Big Impact

The job search is a marathon, not a sprint. Consistency is what turns effort into momentum.

Try:

  • Setting weekly goals (e.g., 3 coffee chats, 2 applications)
  • Blocking time for interview prep and reflection
  • Tracking your progress to stay motivated

Consistency builds confidence and keeps you moving forward even when things feel uncertain.

Your Career, Your Pace

The 3 Cs aren’t just a checklist, they’re a mindset. They help you stay grounded, intentional, and connected to your purpose. Whether you’re just starting out or deep in interviews, returning to Clarity, Connections, and Consistency can help you navigate the journey with confidence.
