When recruiting for specific skills or experiences, using the free resources from the Yale School of Management Career Development Office is a great approach to uncover candidates amongst the talented Yale SOM graduate students.
Target students with in-demand professional skills and experience
The Yale SOM CDO offers employers free access to resume books of current Yale SOM students. When students submit their resume, they complete a profile of previous experience and future desires. Part of the profile allows students to signal their specific in-demand skills, by which employers can filter resume books to find these students:
- AI/ML integration
- Data analytics or visualization tools
- Financial modeling & analysis
- Program management applications
- Start-up founder/employer
The resume books also can be filtered using keywords valued by the hiring team, such as specific software skills. If you are unsure how to start, reach out to your Yale SOM Employer Partnerships Manager for guidance.
Target students based on club membership and coursework
Many students hone their skills through coursework in specific classes or in extra-curricular pursuits through club membership. With a bit of finesse, hiring teams can find these students with the tailored desired skills. For example:
- Filter resume books by membership in Clubs & Organizations
- Post your role at Yale SOM and require students to call out on their resume or cover letter how they learned/ applied specific skills
- Ask students about specific coursework during coffee chats, informational interviews, or screener interviews. Check out the complete list of all Yale SOM courses here or review the “Interests & Industries” list which identifies relevant courses based on the interest area.
Target students earning degrees focused on skills or industries
Yale SOM offers three focused masters degrees; in addition, many MBA students earn a joint degree with another Yale graduate school, further focusing their studies. You can filter resume books by these degrees, or connect with your Employer Partnerships Manager who can advise based on your unique needs.
