Industry Primer: Private Equity

Private Equity (PE) funds are a unique class of investments. For one, they are avenues for placing capital into private companies as opposed to investing in publically traded assets. Also, PE firms often pair investor capital with debt from lenders (so-called leveraged investing), which amplifies potential returns. Further still, PE firms often buy a majority share in their portfolio companies, allowing them to play an active role in leading and shaping the company. This Primer will cover the ins-and-outs of PE, covering the fund lifecycle (from strategy and fundraising to capital deployment) as well as PE firm economics and key trends.
