The mission of Out Of Office is to provide a forum for the exploration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues within the Yale SOM community and future professional settings. The objectives of Out Of Office are to: 1) Provide a support system for LGBTQ+ students within the SOM community; 2) Provide a social network for LGBTQ+ SOM students to interact with the broader Yale community; 3) Work as a general information resource on LGBTQ+ issues for the SOM community; 4) Provide recruiting, networking, and other career development opportunities for LGBTQ+ students; and 5) Foster an open community of queer and non-queer students, professionals, and alumni.
We understand that each person is in a different part of their journey and want to respect your privacy. You can join OOO in the level that best serves you:
Level X: Out to everyone in SOM community/public.
Level Y: Out to OOO members only (includes leadership, X, Y, and Z)
Level Z: Out to select OOO leaders only.
The target audience for Out of Office is LGBTQ+ students. If you do not identify as LGBTQ+ but you’re supportive of our community and want to stay in the loop on public events and other content, please make sure you become a “Contact” instead of a “Member” of OOO on CampusGroups, or join our Slack channel #ooo-allies.
Our 50-plus student clubs are an integral part of the Yale SOM community. Clubs provide forums for discussion and opportunities for action, and they foster students’ leadership and business skills via consulting engagements, workshops, roundtables, conferences, and fundraisers. SOM clubs are inclusive networks open to all students to participate as identifying members or as active allies.
To ensure LGBTQ+ students feel supported throughout their time at SOM and beyond.
